Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, sparked rumors that they would wed this weekend after their $60 million French estate was reportedly being prepped for a party.

The rumors were started by the local France 3 TV station and the U.K.’s Sun tabloid, who reported that the couple’s Chateau Miraval was being decorated for an event and that guests would include Pitt’s parents and the designer of Jolie’s engagement ring.

Multiple sources told People magazine that there would not be a wedding this weekend and entertainment site X17 stopped by the French estate personally and noted that there was nothing happening.

“We sent an X17 photographer all the way down to the south of France – it’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere – to check out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s chateau Miraval to see just what’s going on,” X17 wrote on August 10. “And… drumroll, please… there’s NOTHING going on!”

A French official also noted that local laws require that couples wed in town hall.

“Under French law couples have to get married at the town hall,” Patrick Mareschi, deputy culture secretary of nearby Correns, told Reuters. “Unlike with a religious wedding, there’s no way a couple can hold a civil ceremony at their own home.”

Pitt and Jolie’s reps had no immediate comments on the reports.

The two have been together for more than six years and are parents to six children. Pitt and Jolie confirmed their engagement in April, after Jolie was photographed on Wednesday wearing a large diamond ring at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Jolie, 37, attended a viewing of a Chinese art collection with Pitt, 48, and their 8-year-old son, Pax.

“Brad designed the ring,” the actor’s manager said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on April 13. “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no [wedding] date set at this time.”

Rumors of a romantic affair between Pitt and Jolie began to circulate in 2004, when they filmed the spy movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which saw them playing a married couple. This will be Jolie’s third marriage. She was previously married to her “Hackers” co-star, Jonny Lee Miller, and Billy Bob Thornton, who appeared with her in the film “Pushing Tin.”

Pitt divorced Jennifer Aniston, his first and only wife, in 2005. He and Jolie stepped out together publicly that year. The two are parents to three adopted children, Maddox, Pax and Zahara, and three biological children, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Last year, several online reports said Pitt and Jolie had planned to marry in secret, which the actress denied. In May 2011, Pitt told USA Today that marriage is “meaning more and more” to his and the actress’ six children, adding: “So it’s something we’ve got to look at.”

In July 2010, Jolie told ABC News that she and Pitt may get married if their children asked them to do so, adding: “I think it’d be hard to say no to the kids.”
