Anne Hathaway is set to play Judy Garland in a biopic, but it won’t be helmed by Darren Aronofsky, despite a recent report.

The film is called “Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland” and is set for release in 2013. The 29-year-old actress has been attached to the project since 2009. The website The Tracking Board said Aronofsky is set to direct the movie.

“Judy Garland story is not true,” he said on his Twitter page on Wednesday, March 29.

Aronofsky is known for films such as “Black Swan,” “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream.” His Twitter profile picture is a photo of Stanley B. Herman, who starred in those movies. Hathaway has never worked with him on an on-screen project before.

“Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland” is based on a 2000 book by Gerald Clarke and details Garland’s battles with drug and alcohol, suicide attempts and relationships. The actress was married five times and had three children, including Broadway star Liza Minnelli. Garland died at age 47 of a prescription drug overdose in 1969.

“Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland” is being produced by Weinstein Company. Filming has not yet begun.

“It’s a very sensitive project,” she told BBC Radio in December 2010. “There have been so many stories told about her life that we’re really trying to get it right and so we’re taking our time with it.”

Garland’s famously played Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.” Hathaway showcased her singing skills in films such as “Ella Enchanted” and sang with Hugh Jackman at the 2009 Oscars. She also rapped during a “Conan” interview. “I certainly don’t sing like Judy Garland,” Hathaway told BBC Radio. “The talk is to have me do the singing but I think people might cry bloody murder if … we don’t hear Judy Garland’s beloved voice. The talk is for me to sing but I don’t know if that’s exactly going to happen.”

Hathaway studied another Hollywood icon – Hedy Lamarr, while preparing to play Selena Kyle, aka Catwoman, in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” which hits theaters on June 20.

Hathaway is currently filming the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical “Les Miserables” with Jackman. She plays Fantine, a poor French woman who turns to prostitution to provide for her daughter.

Hathaway is also preparing to get married. She and fiance Adam Shulman celebrated their upcoming marriage with an engagement party, held in a bookstore in New York City, in February Us Weekly said. The celebration contained vegan dishes and flowers, namely ranunculus and anemones, placed inside bird-shaped vases, according to the magazine.

Hathaway and Shulman, 31, have not commented. The two are both from New York and dated for three years before their engagement, which was announced in November 2011. This will be the first marriage for the actress, who rarely discusses her love life in the press. No wedding date has been announced, but Us Weekly said the two are set to marry in October 2013.
