Beyonce & Jay-Z Are Trademarking Blue Ivy’s Name

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 12: Recording artists Jay-Z and Beyonce watch Rafael Nadal of Spain and Novak Djokovic of Serbia play during the Men's Final on Day Fifteen of the 2011 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 12, 2011 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.

Will there be a line of ‘Blue Ivy’ baby products soon? New parents Jay-Z and Beyonce are already taking the first step toward branding their baby girl!

Baby Blue Ivy Carter is so famous she’s trademarked, according to The Washington Post! On Jan. 26, Jay-Z and Beyonce filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect their little superstar’s name — and reserve it for a future line of Blue-approved baby products, no doubt.

But Blue better watch out — other enterprising folks tried to trademark her name, too! Fashion designer Joseph Mbeh submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” on Jan. 11, and another applicant filed on Jan. 20 for “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” to use on a line of fragrances.

Lucky for Blue, the trademark office denied both filings because the name belonged to “a very famous infant” and would trick consumers into thinking Jay-Z and Beyonce approved the products.

Beyonce’s company, BGK Trademark Holdings, filed the application, and it’s still pending. But because parents can legally trademark the names of their minor children, it’s basically a done deal.

There’s one surprising contender for the use of Blue’s name — a boutique in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin! The store “Blue Ivy” filed on Jan. 19, 2011 before Beyonce was even pregnant and was approved on Aug. 23! Now the owners can use the name on their store, Web site and other related items — unless some multimillionaire celebrities want to make an offer on the trademark…

Would YOU buy a line of “Blue Ivy Carter” baby items?
