The Op-Ed article, published in News Leader, was written in response to a previous letter urging Christians to avoid voting for Mitt Romney due to his Mormon beliefs.

In her letter, Pitt wrote, “I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.”

“Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama – a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage,” Pitt continued.

Jane Pitt, who lives in Springfield, Missouri, worked as a high school counselor while the actor’s father was the manager of a trucking company.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have spoken openly of their support for same-sex marriage, once claiming that they would wait to get married until everyone had the same right. It was announced in April that the longtime partners, who have been together for more than six years and are parents to six children, were engaged.

Pitt told The Hollywood Reporter in January, “I’m an Obama supporter, no question… But it doesn’t mean there’s nothing to learn from the other side.”

The actor also talked about his mother at the time, telling the industry magazine, “She’s very, very loving – very open, genuine, and it’s hilarious because she always gets painted in the tabloids as a she-devil. There’s not an ounce of malice in her. She wants everyone to be happy… I can be naive like my mom sometimes, but I’m like my father.”

Pitt’s close friend George Clooney recently hosted a fundraiser for Obama, which raised nearly $15 million.

Angelina Jolie’s father Jon Voight is also a Republican and once referred to vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin as a “beautiful choice.”

Brad Pitt has yet to comment on his conservative mother’s editorial letter.
