Dozens of celebrities have taken to Twitter to remember singer and model Aaliyah on the 11th anniversary of her death. She was killed in a plane crash on August 25th 2001.

The ‘Try Again’ singer was enjoying a successful career in music when her life was tragically cut short. The performer was flying home from a music video shoot in the Bahamas when her plane crashed and burst into flames. She was deemed to have died instantly, along with eight other passengers.

The singer was well respected in the field of R&B music, as shown by the heartfelt tweets of megastars like Missy Elliot, Drake and Timbaland.

Missy Elliot said of the 22 year-old:” Aaliyah til this very day u r still in Your own Lane! Ure music is Timeless! We miss u! #WeLoveuAaliyah!”

Timbaland sent out an emotional message: “#ripaaliyah miss you babygirl”, while Mary J Blige chipped in: “Good morning twitter fam. Let’s all take a moment to remember our sister Aaliyah!!! #ripaaliyah”

Drake tweeted a touching comment aimed at the performer, letting on that he looks to her memory in times of uncertainty : “RIP Baby Girl…in my ear at every show letting me know the next move I should make. Love you.”

Nicki Minaj joined in the celebration of her life, saying: “#RIPAaliyah We’ll always love you” while NeYo added:

“Today is the day that the R&B Angel Aaliyah passed on. RT if you loved her the way I did!!WE MISS YOU BABYGIRL!!!!”

Lil Kim left a simple message: “#RIPAaliyah My Sister 🙁 ” while Frank Ocean added: “RIP to the Beautiful and Talented Aaliyah”.
