Eddie Murphy’s rep responds to death hoax: ‘he is very much alive.

The 50-year-old actor and comedian was the victim of a death hoax by a fake report featured on a site called Global Associated News which claimed he died after a snowboarding accident in Zermatt, Switzerland.

However, a disclaimer at the bottom of the page in small print reads, “THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! This is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! This story was dynamically generated using a generic ‘template’ and is not factual.”

The disclaimer didn’t stop people from Tweeting the news and sharing it on Facebook which might have forced the star’s to issue a statement.

“Trust me, Eddie is very much alive and well and definitely not in Switzerland snowboarding,” Murphy’s rep told E! News.”

In September, it was announced that Murphy would host the 84th annual Academy Awards, but he dropped out in November and was subsequently replaced by Billy Crystal. It will be Crystal’s ninth time as host of the ceremony, which is set to air live on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, OnTheRedCarpet.com’s parent company.

Murphy received an Oscar nomination in 2006 for his role in “Dreamgirls.” He’s known for his roles in the “Shrek” films, “Dr. Doolittle,” “Coming to America” and the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise. Murphy is also known for his comedy specials “Raw” and “Delirious” and first rose to fame as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 1980 to 1984.
