Wherever you look around the world, fashion plays a huge part in the lives of so many people. Perhaps the best groups to look at when it comes to this polarizing industry are those who say they have no love for fashion, yet fail to realize that ‘anti-fashion’ is one of the biggest movements relating to the industry, or that they are in fact a part of it.
One of the factors that attract so many people to the fashion industry is the differences that are found throughout the world. From country to country, and even from city to city in the best fashion loving nations, the clothes that people wear can vary hugely. What are the best examples of how fashion changes from one place to another?
A Land Down Under
Australia is famous for many things, but until recently, fashion was not one of them. However, today the country is the perfect example of how you can travel from one city to the next and find people dressed completely differently.
While a lot of this has to do with the Australian climate, it also points to the demographic differences found in each location. Cities such as Melbourne and Sydney, for example, are among the most diverse in the world, and as such you can find everything from traditional Western dress such as jeans and a t-shirt to Islamic fashion such as abayas and kaftan dresses.
This diversity is replicated in multicultural cities around the world, but Australia is definitely the best example in this regard.
Flamboyance in India
When we think of Indian fashion, we think of Bollywood and the glitz and glamor associated with it. Of course, not everyone in India is able to wear such flamboyant clothing, but even ‘regular’ Indian fashion is notable for some great garments and bringing together color, luxury, and many other characteristics that are exciting to find in clothing.
Garments such as the Sari, worn across the country but unique depending on the location, are the best known and popular.
Hip Hop Styles
Of all the sub cultures that exist today, hip-hop fashion is unquestionably one of the strongest and most recognizable. Having found its roots in Africa and exploded into global prominence through New York City, hip-hop styles are influential in all manner of urban fashion today, to the point where particular items are as popular in the mainstream as they are in their specific niche.
Color, oversized designs, and strong contrasts are what hip-hop is all about, definitely a style that reaches all corners of the globe.
Fashion on Earth
Ultimately, that is what global fashion today is all about. The world is becoming ‘smaller’ in terms of globalization and migration, with communities multicultural on a level never seen before. Thanks to this, the reality is that we can find Islamic clothing, hip-hop styling, jeans, t-shirts, saris, or any garment almost anywhere we travel to.
While the basis of trends obviously change as we move from location to location, fashion’s reach is such that there is always a little something for everyone.
