“I’m glad I’m still alive”: Katy Perry thankful as she’s named Woman of the Year

It’s been a mad old year for Katy Perry, what with her divorce from Russell Brand, the release of her docu-film Katy Perry: Part Of Me and what seemed like the 27th re-release of her album Teenage Dream.

And the stress of it all seems to have got to the songstress, as she confesses in a new interview: “I’m glad I’m still alive.”

But it looks as though Katy’s year might end on a high yet, as yesterday she was crowned Woman of the Year by Billboard magazine.

The singer popped along to American mag’s Women In Music luncheon (ooh, fancy) in New York City yesterday to accept the honour, wearing a rather demure (for Katy) ruffle neck and hem boob-hugging dress in an eye-popping shade of hot pink.

Speaking in an interview in the latest issue of Billboard, which sees her grace the cover wearing aquamarine eyeliner and pink lipstick, Katy – who turned 28 in October – said: “I’m glad I’m still alive – 27 has been a very testing year.”

She also said: “I’d thought my year was over, that it was time to pass the baton. But I guess I get to hold onto it until the end of the year!”

And speaking about her Woman of the Year title, she said: “It’s truly a lovely compliment. Seeing who has been honored in the past – Beyonce, Taylor Swift and others – I’m in good company.”

Katy got to hand out with a few of her fellow music industry ladies at the event, including Carly Rae Jepsen, Ciara and, erm, our very own Cher Lloyd.

CRJ, as were going to start calling Carly, was also honoured at the event, being named Rising Star Of The Year.

The newcomer looked lovely in a bright blue mini dress although, even in massive wedge heels, she was dwarfed as she posed next to Katy. Which makes us wonder whether CRJ is unusually small or Katy is freakishly tall? Answers on a postcard please.

Cher Lloyd continued to make her mark on the ‘tough American audience’ by performing a version of Katy’s song ET at the event.

The former X Factor finalist looked like a proper little Cheryl-a-like pop star in red jeans, a black and grey blazer and loads of silver jewellery.

Meanwhile, RnB singer Ciara looked foxy in a little black leather dress. Kinky.

Check out the video clip of Katy discussing being named Woman of the Year, as well as talking about her ‘musical influences’ (Alanis Morissette and Gwen Stefani, FYI), below…
