Jennifer Hudson turned 30 years old on September 12 and got a sweet surprise from her sisters and 300 fans to ring in her big day.
The singer was in DC on her birthday for a gala celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, which honored Aretha Franklin. The Oscar winner thought she was going to celebrate her “new year” at a late night dinner with friends. Instead, she was surprised with a huge birthday party at a new downtown club Opera Ultra Lounge.
At the surprise celebration Raheem Devaughn and Lil’ Mo sung her “Happy Birthday” while drag queens preformed some of Jennifer’s hits. The festivities were topped with a three-tiered cake and lasted until 2am!
At 30, Jennifer never looked better with her recently slimmed down sexy shape. She’s had plenty of milestones to celebrate since she stepped into the scene onAmerican Idol, with two albums, movie roles (Dreamgirls, Sex and the City, Secret Life of Bees), an Oscar and Grammy win. Plus, a marriage and birth of her first son.
