Singing legend in legal trouble
Fugees legend Lauryn Hill is in major legal trouble after knowingly failing to pay tax, it is alleged.
The Press Association reports that the 37-year-old hitmaker earned more than $1.6 million (£1 million) during the three year period she is accused of failing to file tax returns.
She is due to appear before a federal magistrate on June 29, when she will be forced to explain herself. Prosecutors have said her primary source of income has been royalties from the film and music industries.
Her lawyer Nathan J Hochman did not return the PA’s call.
Hill, who released her first solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill fourteen years ago, is finally expected to release the follow-up later this year… but it is suggested by NME that she could well be behind bars.
Just last year she faced legal trouble when she was sued for harassment and unpaid wages by her former guitarist Jay Gore for over $20,000 (£12,250).
She was due to appear with Nicki Minaj at New York’s Hot 97 Summer Jam earlier this week, but the ‘Starships’ hitmaker pulled out at the last minute after hearing of a diss made against her by the event’s host.
