Like daughter, like mother — Mama June turned heads by getting glitzed and glammed up herself.
June Shannon, the 33-year-old matriarch of the TLC reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” and mother of main star and frequent beauty pageant contestant Alana Thompson, got a makeover for the New York GLAAD Media Awards, which honored Anderson Cooper on Saturday, March 16.
Shannon was bedecked in jewelry, a black wrap dress, makeup and sleek blonde waves — a drastic change from the casual clothes and frizzy, brunette ponytail she usually sports on her reality series, which depicts the often rude but always fun-loving antics of her Georgia family.
The reality star, whose brother-in-law “Uncle Poodle” is openly gay and HIV-positive, has also lost 100 pounds since “Honey Boo Boo” debuted in January 2011. She received thunderous applause at the awards ceremony, which recognizes positive representations and contributions of LGBT people in the media, and later hung out with Snooki and JWoow from MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” as seen on the former show alum’s Instagram page.
“YES. We love Mama June,” Snooki said.
“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Reality Program but lost to CBS’ “The Amazing Race.” (Check out a list of winners.)
The award ceremony also featured an appearance by Madonna, who presented the award to Cooper and showed up in an outfit resembling a Cub Scout’s uniform to protest the Boy Scouts of America’s longtime ban on gay members .
