Last night saw Demi Lovato and Britney Spears make their X Factor USA judging debut alongside Simon Cowell and LA Reid and if they were hoping that their first day on the panel would be easy, they were wrong.

Having promised to offer criticism to the hopefuls who were auditioning in order to help them in the future, Demi stayed true to her word. However, one hopeful didn’t take too kindly to her criticisms.

Revealing in a VT that singing was his “passion”, 50 year-old Shawn Armenta, made his way onto the stage to audition in front of the judges. With his performance over, it was time for the judges to comment, with Simon going first, saying:

“You’re like a mouse trying to be an elephant. It’s just wrong.”

Not allowing Simon to have the last word, Shawn retorted: “I worked way too freakin’ hard for this and I’m not a bad singer. I know I’m not.”

Already upset with Simon’s comments, the performer turned on Demi who he slammed by teling her: “That’s why you use Auto-tune and I don’t”, when she responded to his claim that he’s worked hard, saying: “A lot of people work really, really hard for their dreams, but it’s not meant for everybody.”

Jumping to Demi’s defense, Britney could be seen demanding: “I want to know who let you on stage. I feel uncomfortable with you just staring at me.”

Check out Shawn’s audition.
