Atletico Madrid are to ask Diego Costa to delay his big-money move to Chelsea until summer 2015.

Mirror Sport revealed on April 15 that the west Londoners are confident of tying up a £50million deal with a stunning £185,000-a-week contract for the striker.

Now, Atletico coach Diego Simeone has met with the directors to plead with them not to cash in on their star forward this summer, so he can carry on building a team that currently leads the Spanish title race and has qualified for the European Cup Final – ironically, after beating Chelsea in the semis.

They are due for further talks after their all-La Liga showdown with city rivals Real Madrid in Lisbon next month and will call on Costa to give them one more season – with the assurance he will be allowed to go next summer.

However, Chelsea remain confident they will get the deal done this close-season and believe Costa will be their player.
