Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says Paul Pogba will start against CSKA Moscow despite his red card against Arsenal, while David De Gea and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be rested.
United need a point against Russian side CSKA at Old Trafford on Tuesday to be sure of topping Group A in the Champions League.
Mourinho revealed he will make changes ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City with Sergio Romero set to start in goal as De Gea is given a night off after his heroics helped United to a 3-1 win at Arsenal on Saturday.
Pogba was sent off in that game but will start on Tuesday, while Mourinho revealed Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Ibrahimovic will all miss out.
Mourinho said: Paul is not suspended for the Champions League. He plays tomorrow. All the other players who didn’t play the last match they are still out.
Zlatan is not injured. He needs sometimes very hard work on the area that supports the knee that had the problem. When the hard work starts and fatigue comes, for that period of time he cannot play for these days.
The decision was to do that after Watford. He is in a cycle of work, in the gym and on the pitch. He is out again for tomorrow but back to normal after CSKA.
De Gea was in stunning form against Arsenal but, for one night only, Mourinho joked De Gea will only be the third best goalkeeper in the world on Tuesday.
He said: Romero is the best because he plays and my goalkeeper is always best in the world. David is third best. Romero first, Joel [Pereira] second and David third best.
