Louis van Gaal completed his first signing as United boss yesterday and is already making advances to adding further players as his transfer plans start to take shape.
Shaw thing
Luke Shaw will complete his long-awaited move from Southampton to Manchester United in the next 48 hours – for a record £33million.
A fee has been agreed between the two club’s, which would make the 18-year-old the most expensive teenager in the world.
Shaw is set to undergo a medical today after arriving in the north west last night, with Louis van Gaal assuring him he will be first-choice at Old Trafford next season.
Veteran left-back Patrice Evra, who penned a new deal at the end of the campaign, has agreed to act as the England man’s mentor.
Welcome Ander
Shaw’s arrival will be United’s second signing of the summer after the club confirmed a £28.8million deal for Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.
The 24-year-old came close to a switch under ex-boss David Moyes a year ago, before the transfer descended into a farce on deadline day.
However, it has gone through this time with Herrera signing a four-year deal worth £70,000-a-week, with the option of an extra year.
He told the club’s official website: Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true. I have played at Old Trafford for Athletic Club in the UEFA Europa League and it was one of the highlights of my career so far. I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club’s objectives.
Having arrived on Tuesday, I’m excited to now be living in Manchester and I can’t wait for my first game in United’s famous red shirt.
Friday’s Manchester United stories from other newspapers and websites
Tug-of-war for Ayew
United are set to battle it out with Liverpool for Ghana World Cup star Andre Ayew, reports the Daily Express.
The 24-year-old was the stand-out performer for the Black Stars in Brazil, scoring in games against USA and Germany, as his side exited at the group stage.
But his performances have alerted both clubs, who are keen to lure him from Marseille this summer.
Ayew has previously revealed his dream to play in the Premier League and could get his wish before too long.
LVG wants Vidal
According to the Daily Star, United are preparing to test Juventus’ resolve by launching a £30million bid for midfielder Arturo Vidal.
The Chilean has reportedly been on the radar for some time, with Real Madrid also keen on snapping him up.
And both clubs were put on high alert when Vidal admitted he could leave Turin, with his future unclear after the World Cup.
Juve insisted he was not for sale but United will launch a bid to try and unsettle the midfielder.
