Scientists constantly discover new and important breakthroughs. Here are some scientific discoveries that will change the world in the coming years.
Without science, many things that make the world work would not exist, and we would live in something similar to the Dark Ages. Science is a revolutionary force, and it looks like it will not stop any time soon. Read on to learn about some scientific discoveries that will change the world.
Mind-Controlled Exoskeletons
The world of artificial limbs has existed for a long time, going all the way back to peg legs. While technology has advanced and prosthetics are much more life-like and seamless, their potential is still unreached. Currently, engineers at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) are working on creating a hand exoskeleton that users can control with their minds.
The user will wear a special headset containing electrodes, and they can control the hand with their mind in as little as a few minutes. As this technology progresses, users can use these exoskeletons for different tasks, such as rehabilitation and other assistive purposes. Beyond helping those paralyzed or missing a limb, an exoskeleton has many more possibilities for underwater mining, space exploration, and more.
High-Power Lasers
Einstein proposed a theory that energy is composed of matter. It has been an interesting idea, but in the years since it was proposed, many have struggled to prove this theory and all its ramifications. Right now, many researchers are using lasers in diverse research applications, some of which could prove Einstein’s theory correct. Researchers in China are on track to complete their Station of Extreme Light (SEL) in 2023, and they’ll use this high-powered laser to disrupt the matter and energy connection, trying to prove Einstein’s theory. At this point, the extent of what is possible when science can convert heat and light into matter is unknown, but it could potentially revolutionize the world.
In America, researchers are developing a Zettawatt-Equivalent Ultrashort pulse laser System (ZEUS), which will help them study plasma and other subatomic principles of the universe. Working with this system could lead to more effective medical treatments in the future.
Climate Change
Over the last 50 years and into today, climate change has been wreaking havoc on the world, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Human consumption of fossil fuels and carbon emissions have only increased, and governments are slow to adopt renewable alternatives. If this trend continues, the world will see even more natural disasters and a significant rise in the water level.
Scientists have been working for decades to find clean and efficient alternatives to fossil fuels to make them cheap, reliable, and effective. Others have worked to find ways to clean the atmosphere and potentially counteract the carbon dioxide we’ve already emitted. Electric vehicles are one alternative, but scientists won’t stop trying to find the next big thing that can hopefully remedy the current climate situation.
These scientific discoveries will change the worldand how we do things going forward. Like the scientific discoveries of long ago, these will introduce new ideas, concepts, and pieces of technology. The future could be great, but it only if we trust our best minds to lead the way.
