Singer was told to hide her sexuality
Jessie J was told to keep her
sexuality a secret to avoid turning off her male fans, a new book reveals.
The Voice judge, who has always admitted that she fancies both men and women, was ordered to
hide the truth by record bosses to avoid turning off male fans, the unauthorised biography says.
According to author
Chloe Govan, record bosses advised the star to say she was a bisexual because that was trendy.
Govan says: “Jessie
might have been with boys in the past — but she is 100 per cent gay. Jessie was openly lesbian and didn’t hide
it.
“She was advised not to come out, though. Certain people thought being bi was trendy, exotic and a fashion
statement. It would increase her allure.”
The writer continued: “Being gay would alienate people. They knew how
important image was and asked her to tone it down a bit.
“There are so many homophobes out and there were fears of a
career-damaging backlash.”
Jessie has recently been linked to Tinie Tempah though the ‘Paycheck’ singer insists that
she is currently single.
“For me, I want it to be less about sexuality and more about being comfortable in who you
fall in love with,” she told US Glamour Magazine.
“If I meet someone and I like them, I don’t care if
they’re a boy or a girl. You should never, ever apologise for anything that makes you happy.”
The Voice judge went on
to admit she found the speculation over her sexuality annoying and that she had never been ashamed of who she was.
A
representative for Jessie J has declined to comment on the new book.
