Singer did not take husband from former wife
Alicia Keys has denied she started dating husband Swizz Beats while he was still married to his first wife.
The music producer and his former R&B singer partner Mashonda ended their romance after four years together in 2008, shortly before Swizz started Alicia.
The ‘Empire State of Mind’ star has since been plagued by rumours she broke up the marriage by stepping out with her beau before his first marriage was over and she has now attempted to put an end to such speculation.
She told JET magazine: “[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together… that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down… there’s no need to fight what’s not true.”
Despite the rumours, Alicia admits she is perfectly happy in her relationship with Swizz as she feels so comfortable in his company.
She said: “I’d never met a person where I could be fully myself… Swizz and I live in each other’s shadow. So we can occupy the same space and there is nothing but equality. There’s something really powerful about that.”
