The 43-year-old was arrested on Monday in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence. His behaviour has been put down to the “difficult time” he is going through since the death of his ex-wife in February.

An insider told The New York Daily News: “It could have been worse. It could have been really, really bad behaviour, with all his irate-ness and craziness.”

But friend Kim Burrell is sticking by the rapper and said that grieving people “sometimes do these things.”

“I support Bobby,” she told the paper. “He spent 17 years in a relationship and marriage with Whitney, so why wouldn’t he be going through some difficult times right now?”

CHP Officer Tiana Reed said in a statement following the star’s arrest: “Officers, when contacting him, noted intoxication on him, the smell of alcohol, and they performed some field sobriety tests.”

The star has now started to attend AA meetings to deal with his problems. Both he and Whitney had well documented battles with addiction through their marriage and separation.

Cocaine was believed to be a contributing factor in the 48 year-old star’s death last month.
