Singer would have turned 54 yesterday
Michael Jackson’s family, children and fans honoured the singer’s memory on what would have been his 54th birthday yesterday (August 29).
To celebrate the late musician’s birthday, his children Prince, Paris and Blanket honoured their father’s memory by taking a trip with the Jackson family to his childhood home in Gary, Indiana and were greeted by thousands of fans.
Fans were seen outside the home dancing to Jackson’s music whilst they awaited the arrival of his mother and children.
“We just want you to know how much he meant to us and the city of Gary,” the mayor told The Washington Post.
The three kids along with their aunt La Toya, co-guardians, Katherine Jackson and TJ Jackson were spotted together yesterday in the city where Michael rose from Midwest humble beginnings.
Jackson will be honoured at the annual “Going Back to Indiana” festivities in Gary, which began last night with candlelight vigil lead by Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson outside of Michael’s home as a child and will be followed by a performance by The Gratitude Project.
Michael’s children are also set to throw the first pitch at a Gary SouthShore RailCats baseball game later this week.
The King of Pop passed away on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of propofol at just 50 years old.
Michael Jackson – ‘Beat It’:
Remembering The King Of Pop
Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958. He was the seventh child of nine children to Joseph and Katherine Jackson and was born into a typical working class family. The city of Gary is 25 miles from downtown Chicago and is famous for its massive steel industry. It took its name from the chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert H Gary, and is nicknamed ‘City of Century’ – we’re hoping for ironic reasons. (Image: WENN.com)
