Rihanna mourned the loss of her grandmother on July 1 and the singer shared memories and photos of her beloved grandparent with fans on both Twitter and Instagram.
Using the hashtag #grangranDOLLY, the 24-year-old singer wrote about her grandmother on Twitter and posted several links to Instagram photos of her grandmother. Some photos also feature a younger Rihanna with her loved relative.
According to MTV News, Rihanna had just finished performing at the Peace & Love music festival in Sweeden before her grandmother died.
Chris Brown, who dated Rihanna for several years before the two split after Brown assaulted the singer in 2009, appeared to Tweet about the news on July 1.
He wrote on his official Twitter page, “Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP.”
Rihanna is nominated at the BET Awards on Sunday for Best Female R&B Artist. It is unknown if she will attend the ceremony. Her most recent Tweet at the time of this writing is a quote she attributes to Adele.
“When it’s dark enough you can see the stars,” Rihanna wrote. “Thank u Adele.”
Brown is set to perform at the award show and is up for four awards including Best Male R&B Artist. Check out the full list of nominees here.
It was recently announced that Rihanna will voice a character in the new DreamWorks animated film “Happy Smekday!” which is set for release in late 2014. “The Big Bang Theory” actor Jim Parsons has also signed on to provide his voice for a character in the film.
Rihanna made her big screen debut earlier this year in the sci-fi action film “Battleship.” She also plays herself in the upcoming comedy film “The End of the World,” which features celebrities as versions of themselves dealing with the apocalypse at a party at James Franco’s house. The film also stars Emma Watson and Jason Segel and is set for release in 2013.
