Well they do say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery
We’re used to Rihanna setting trends, not following them. So we were rather surprised with her latest shoot, which saw her sporting a look rather similar to fellow singer FKA twigs. The Diamonds hitmaker has championed the 90s trend in the past, but with her hair in braids and dark lipstick, she was almost identical to Robert Pattinson’s girlfriend.
Smouldering at the camera with smoky eye makeup and defined lips, and accessorizing with giant gold hoops, Ri-Ri looks flawless on the cover of i-D magazine’s music issue. In another shot, the 26-year-old rocked an oversized pair of bleached denim jeans and not much else, showing off her tattoos and some impressive side boob whilst draping her arms across her bare chest. With her braids coiled on top of her head, the star seemed to pay homage to the Mercury Prize nominee, sporting a nose ring.
Speaking about the shoot, i-D’s Fashion Director Alastair McKimm said, “[Rihanna] really is one of the most creative, talented and inspiring women I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. The energy and enthusiasm she brings is intense. She’s the ultimate icon of our time.”
Ri-Ri has been busy working on her icon status, and has been hitting the studio to create more music. Her last album Unapologetic was released back in 2012, and whilst she’s promised fans that another one is on the way, the release date for R8 has yet to be announced.
According to Ne-Yo, however, it will definitely be worth the wait. After revealing he’d helped write some material for Rihanna he revealed, I don’t know what’s going to be kept and I don’t know what’s going to happen with it, but we definitely did a few sessions together. She’s enjoying life, man! She deserves it. The album will come out – it’ll be out soon enough. I personally feel like when it comes out, people will forget about how long the wait was. It’ll definitely be worth the wait. What I’ve heard so far sounds unlike anything else. It’s coming!
Last week she debuted her new single, FourFiveSeconds, a collaboration with Kanye West, 37, and Paul McCartney, 72, and the super trio are set to perform the hit at the Grammy Awards on February 8. A source told The Sun, “Rihanna’s seriously pleased to have bagged a big slot at The Grammys and two huge names to kick off her comeback. Paul McCartney’s a Grammys regular and it will give Rihanna serious kudos to have a Beatle backing her on stage. It is going to be a huge Grammys moment.”
But when it comes to releasing any more music, Ri-Ri is keeping her lips tightly sealed. Tell [my fans] they’ll have to wait, she told E! News. I’m in the studio right now with a killer team and I’m excited about what we’re doing.
