The Rolling Stones deny reports that they’re playing their final show at the Glastonbury festival in 2013.
The report was originally made by the UK’s Sunday Mirror, that the legendary rock band would retire with their first appearance at the music festival. The band’s rep told the UK’s Guardian that the band are not playing the festival or retiring.
The Mirror quoted a source as saying, “All four members have agreed that next year is the right time to have one final hurrah and put on the gig of their lives. It’s as case of now or never, and obviously Glastonbury is the most important festival on the circuit. Everybody’s incredibly excited… it’s a final bow.”
The false report suggested that the band planned to wrap up their long music career on their 50th anniversary this year. Instead, for the occasion, The Rolling Stones plan to release a documentary in September, as well as a commemorative book later in the year.
The Rolling Stones consists of members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. The English group is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of all time.
Last September, frontman Mick Jagger released an album as part of his super group SuperHeavy, which features Dave Stewart, 59, of the Eurythmics, soul singer Joss Stone, 25, reggae artist and youngest son of the late Bob Marley, Damian Marley, 33, and “Slumdog Millionaire” film composer A.R. Rahman, 46.
The first single off of the album was “Miracle Worker,” which the band shot a corresponding video for in late June. Other tracks include “One Day One Night,” “You’re Never Gonna Change” and “SuperHeavy.” Billboard described the sound as varying from straight reggae to “Indian and Jamaican rhythms” with touches of “street-smart swagger” and “cinematic string” elements.
