Things to do in the Delaware Valley

The Delaware Valley extends at its fullest from Cecil County, Maryland into parts of Southern New Jersey. It also encompasses parts of both Delaware and Pennsylvania. One of the many benefits of the valley covering such a vast expansion of lands is there are also plenty of activities to participate in and attractions to see. The region offers a little something for everyone, whether you a resident or just planning on visiting the area.

Maryland

By size Maryland is the smallest part of the Delaware Valley region, offering up only one county. Cecil County offers visitors a chance to have quick access to either Philadelphia or Baltimore via Interstate 95. It also offers the chance to get away and reconnect with the nature and the quieter side of life.

There are plenty of attractions in the county including a variety of tours. Those who enjoy adventure may want to check into one of the many kayaking trips. This would be a great opportunity to see some of the natural beauty of this county while enjoying time with friends and family.

Equine lovers will also have plenty of opportunities to take a tour via horseback. Trail rides along with carriage rides and hay rides are available at Fairwinds Farm.

Delaware

Working your way up the river valley, you will cross into the First State of Delaware. The area around Wilmington welcomes locals and visitors alike with open arms. For those looking to explore, there are many attractions and activities in the area that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Keep in mind for all the shoppers in your group, Delaware does not have a sales tax.

Family friendly options in this region include the opportunity to take in a Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball game. The Blue Rocks are the class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Pennsylvania

The Keystone state is next on the list for Delaware Valley region visitors to enjoy. Primarily this area consists of Philadelphia and the counties immediately surrounding it.  The City of Brotherly Love is a hotbed of activity offering a wide array of things to do.

Sports fanatics will enjoy the opportunity to take in action from all types of professional leagues. Football fans who crave the action of the gridiron during the summer can enjoy a game of Arena League Football with the Philadelphia Soul.

If you consider yourself a foodie, grab your fork and dive right into the city’s diverse culinary scene. You can enjoy a quick bite to eat with a warm, soft Philadelphia pretzel or even one of the famous cheesesteak options. Just make sure you grab extra napkins!

New Jersey

The final state in the Delaware Valley is New Jersey.  The Garden State is represented by Burlington, Mercer, and Camden counties. Visitors to Mercer County may want to check out the state’s capital city Trenton. There are also entertainment options available for residents and visitors to enjoy, from wine tastings, to a night out with dinner and entertainment from a Murder Mystery Theatre Company.

Get out the door Delaware Valley! There are plenty of opportunities to spend time with your friends and family away from just waiting for you to find them!
