Burkina Faso’s military government announced Wednesday that the country’s intelligence and security services are actively pursuing suspected of involvement in the attempt to thwart the coup attempt and “plunge our country into chaos.”
A government statement said the attempted coup took place on Tuesday, but did not provide further details.
The government spokesman Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo said in a statement: “Officials and other suspects involved in this destabilization attempt have been arrested and others are being actively sought. he said.
Ouédraogo, added an investigation was ongoing and that it was an attempt to plunge Burkina Faso into “chaos”.
The announcement came a day after demonstrators marched in the capital, Ouagadougou, in a show of support for the transitional government. The government’s statement congratulated Burkina Faso’s people, its “resolute and historic commitment to defending our homeland and defending us from all those who seek to drag us back into history.”
Praising the “patriotic actions and high sense of duty” of the defense and security forces who thwarted the coup.
