Angelina Jolie’s leg is turning out to be more than just a flash in the pan. (You see what we did there?) Between the Twitter feed, the legbombing photo meme and the rash of talk-show hosts competively “Jolieing” on camera, it’s hard to keep up.
Jolie flashed it first on the Oscars red carpet Sunday, of course, and then daringly repeated the arms-akimbo, bare-leg-out-to-there pose during the telecast before presenting the Oscar for adapted screenplay.
The next to flaunt it, almost immediately afterward? “Community” actor and “The Descendants” screenwriter Rash, one of those to whom Jolie presented the Oscar, who similarly struck the post heard ’round the world while holding his shiny new statuette.
Rash on Tuesday revealed to E! News the impetus behind his mimicry of Jolie’s pose, which he witnessed from his seat in the theater while awaiting the winner’s name: “As soon as I saw her, I said, ‘God, if we went up there … that’s a great way to own that moment,’ because that’s what I thought she was doing.“
Others Jolieing — like “Tebowing” but for girls — since then include Giuliana Rancic on E!, Kelly Ripa with Lucy Liu on “Live!,” and the hosts of “The Talk,” all clad in black gown (even though Sharon Osbourne said she considered Angie’s move to be “trying too hard”).
Then there’s the “legbombing,” which the “Today” show had fun with Tuesday. Angie’s right leg is getting Photoshopped into pictures past and present, including one shot where it’s doubled up on Jolie herself. (According to Twitter, that pic is the right leg’s favorite.) Think of it added to the Statue of Liberty, the moon landing, the Last Supper … you get the idea.
The @angiesleg Twitter account by Tuesday was had more than 36,000 followers. In appropriately A-list fashion, Angelina’s right leg follows only two other entities on Twitter: J. Lo’s nipple — that’s a whole ‘nother Oscars story — and Bradley Cooper’s mustache.
“Great meeting most of you for the first time last night at the Oscars!!,” Angelina’s right leg said Monday on Twitter, adding, “Left leg and I talked — everything’s cool. Next Oscars, she gets the slit.”
