Two Pussy Riot members say they have been arrested by police in in the Winter Olympics city of Sochi.

Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, both jailed for performing a profanity-laced anti-Vladimir Putin song, claimed they were physically thrown into the back of a police van on suspicion of theft.

Tolokonnikova later took to twitter after they were released and said: “At the time of our detention, we weren’t engaged in any protests, we were walking around Sochi.

WE WERE WALKING.

Tolokonnikova, 24, and Alyokhina, 25, had recently returned to Russia after a European and American tour following their release from prison in December.

Toloknnikova said the amnesty which freed them was a stunt by Putin to improve Russia’s image before the Olympics.

They had been serving two-year jail terms for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred after performing the Putin protest song in Moscow’s main cathedral in February 2012.

The two women were in Sochi with other members of Pussy Riot to record a musical film called “Putin will teach you to love the motherland”, Tolokonnikova’s husband said on his Twitter microblog.

Russian human rights activist Semyon Simonov said he was with the Pussy Riot pair when they were arrested along with several other detained activists.
