The French full-back has attracted interest from several Champions League clubs and Arsenal have decided to break their own rules to try and keep him.
Bacary Sagna has been offered a three year contract to stay at Arsenal.
Sagna, 31, is a free agent when his current deal expires this summer and has already had interest from Manchester City, Inter Milan and Galatasaray.
But Mirror Sport understands that Arsenal are determined to try and persuade Sagna to stay and have broken with club tradition to try and keep him.
Arsenal have offered Sagna a three year deal which is a major statement as up until recently Arsene Wenger has only offered only one year extensions to their 30-somethings.
But they are bending the rules for Sagna and want to reward him for his loyalty with a deal which would see him finish his career at the Emirates.
Gunners boss Wenger is hopeful Sagna will stay even though foreign clubs are free to talk to him and even offer him a pre-contract. But Wenger denied City have made him an offer.
Wenger said: He (Sagna) has an offer, he has not come back to us yet. That (City offer) cannot be right because it’s illegal.
“I’m confident he will stay but we will accept his decision. No matter what his decision will be, we will accept it and go on with it.”
Wenger also said Arsenal will bend on longer deals for 30-somethings. Until recently, the club only gave one year deals to players over 30.
Wenger said: “Look not for the defenders no. It depends. It’s a general law in our club yes. But after it’s not a stupid law, we look at individual cases and we adapt it to the individuals.”
