Florida: Fort Lauderdale airport and schools closed after 20 inches of rain in some areas

A sudden flash flood in south Florida brought up to 20 inches of rain, closing the Fort Lauderdale airport and Broward County public schools on Wednesday.

The Fort Lauderdale airport Tweeted on Wednesday that Airport will be closed until at least noon Thursday.

“Airport roads are still closed and affected by flooding,” he said.

Departure roadways reopened shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday Thursday, allowing people to reconnect with family and friends waiting outside the airport.

Broward County Public Schools said schools and county offices will be closed on Thursday and all after-school activities will be cancelled.

Fort Lauderdale could get another inch or two of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
