Obama spokesman Jay Carney says Obama is a Leno fan and has enjoyed his many appearances with the late-night comedian in his Burbank, Calif., studio.

Obama made television history in March 2009 by becoming the first sitting president to appear on the program. He had only been in office a few months.

The 63-year-old Leno is stepping down Thursday to make way for successor Jimmy Fallon in New York.

Leno has said he plans to continue playing comedy clubs, indulging his passion for cars and doing other TV work that comes his way.
