Tampa International Airport suspends all commercial operations beginning Tuesday at 12:01 AM ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia.
The airport will remain closed until the extent of the damage is known later this week.
The closure will force the airport and its partners to close the airfield, including passenger boarding bridges, ground facilities, and secure all remaining aircraft before Idalia makes landfall early Wednesday morning as a potentially serious Hurricane.
All air traffic will be halted at 7am on Tuesday morning, although some freighter and commercial aircraft operations may continue overnight. The airport, including the main terminal and airside, is off-limits to all visitors and cannot serve as a refuge.
The airport is scheduled to reopen on Thursday morning. Damage assessment begins after the storm has passed. Tampa International Airport will work closely with partners to reopen the airport based on traffic safety, facility readiness and staffing.
Reservation changes will be communicated immediately.
