Elon Musk is suing OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman for what he claims is a betrayal of the ChatGPT creator’s founding goal of helping humanity rather than profiteering.
In a lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court, billionaire Musk alleges that when he funded the creation of OpenAI, he and Altman and president Greg Brockman created the AI company as a nonprofit organization. He said he had signed a contract to maintain it. Technology will develop for the benefit of the general public.
Under the founding agreement, OpenAI plans to release its code to the public rather than seal it away for the benefit of a private company, the complaint states.
But through its close relationship with Microsoft, OpenAI and its management “sparked that agreement” and “distorted” the company’s mission, Musk alleges in his lawsuit.
Under a new board of directors, the company is not only developing AGI, but actually improving it to maximize Microsoft’s profits, not humanity’s.
In part, there is an argument for Elon’s founding role in OpenAI, and his argument for naming generative AI technology, specifically OpenAI, employing leading scientists and being a major early funder. There was, Chander said.
Mr. Musk resigned from the board in early 2018, but OpenAI was created at the time by Tesla’s CEO to prevent conflicts of interest as he hired AI talent to develop self-driving technology at the electric car maker. He said it was a measure.
