Quick Review: Samsung Galaxy Premier

Another member of the Samsung Galaxy line comes in the form of the Galaxy Premier. It has a design that closely resembles that of the S3 and the S3 Mini. It’s a nice high end phone.

The Premier has dimensions of 5.27” x 2.68” x 0.35” and weighs just 130g. It’s really slim and although it has a 4.7” display, it fits the palm just fine. As aforementioned, it resembles the design of the S3 and the S3 Mini which means that the phone also resembles the classy and premium look of these handsets.

The front of the device consists of the display, sensors, front camera, a home button, and 2 capacitive buttons. On top of the device is the headphone jack while a micro USB port sits at the bottom. The power button is positioned on the right side while the volume rocker is on the left side. At the back you’ll find an 8MP camera with LED flash and speakers. Removing the rear cover will reveal the removable battery and slots for the microSD card and micro SIM card.

The display on the Premier is a 4.7” Super AMOLED with a high resolution of 720 x 1280 and pixel density of 306ppi. The display has an accurate color reproduction, solid viewing angles, and deep blacks. Another thing about an AMOLED display is that it’s friendly to the battery life. The display has proximity and light sensors which make it very responsive and very viewable under direct sunlight.

The 8MP rear camera is capable of producing high-quality photos and record 1080p HD videos. And because it has LED flash, the photos you take even in low-light conditions are less noisy. It has Geo-tagging, Digital Zoom, and Autofocus features. The 1.9MP front camera is solid for video calling through third party VoIP services acquired from providers like RingCentral.

Inside the Premier is a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. It also has a PowerVR SGX544 graphics processor. It runs on Android v4.1.1 Jelly Bean and has TouchWiz Nature UX. With this under the hood, the device is really snappy and responsive. Screen transitions are really smooth and apps open with little slowdown. Web browsing is fast, depending on the Internet connection of course, and renders web pages well.

Some features included in the TouchWiz Nature UX are Smart Stay, Smart Alert, S Voice, S Beam, Direct Call, Pop-up Play, and Best Photo.

Other features of this device include Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/GLONASS, WiFi, and NFC. It has access to Samsung Hub (Game Hub, Video Hub, Music Hub, and Learning Hub), Samsung ChatON, and Google Mobile Services (Google Play, Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps, Google Talk, G+) to name a few.

The Premier has a 2,100mAh removable battery. It is capable of about 21 hours of talk time and 33 days of standby time. The battery is really efficient and to top it off, it’s removable which make it very convenient to bring spare batteries especially for those who always travel.

The Galaxy Premier will surely turn some head in the high-end Smartphone market. Not only does it look attractive, its functions and features are also highly usable. Another strong selling point of this device is the fact that it has a cheaper price tag compared to most high-end devices out in the market now.
