Thanks to Kate, Peplumania™ is set to strike a high
street, friend and perhaps a granny near you – are you prepared? Get the look here
When the Duchess of Cambridge stepped onto
the red carpet at a film premiere on London’s South Bank last night, she was not just wearing another (Lady) grey
dress.
Neither was she wearing just another Matthew Williamson dress.
Oh no, Kate Middleton slipped on a Matthew
Williamson PEPLUM dress with turquoise accents – and the fashion world nearly imploded on itself.
Though the above
may read like an M&S advert (this is no ordinary dress lalala) the significance of the
peplum shouldn’t be downplayed – because if Peplumania™ was a pretty big deal already, it’s now set to get very,
very manic indeed thanks to the good DoC.
What IS a peplum? you may or may not yell…it’s basically a teeny weeny
skirt, that flares over another skirt and features on tops, dresses and more skirts (scroll down to see the best the high
street has to offer)…
The sleek two-piece dress is from Matthew Williamson’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection
too – meaning Kate is streaks ahead of the fash’ pack and already wearing next season’s wares.
Which is
pretty fitting baring in mind that it’s BASICALLY AUTUMN ALREADY, now that the sun is feeling so shy…
Usually
a grey dress worn on an equally grey evening would leave the fash’ pack feeling a little flat, but check out those turquoise
embellishments! The glossy hair! Oh to hell with it, the PEPLUM PART, AGAIN!
Kate accessorized her frock with a pair
of bright blue topaz and diamond earrings by Kiki McDonaugh and co-ordinated the lot with heels and a clutch bag, both by
Emmy Shoes.
With the outfit
costing upwards of £995 for the dress alone, the Discount Duchess has certainly splashed out but was it worth it?
And
what to YOU make of Peplumania™? Is it a trend that just keeps on giving, or did peplums just peak too early to make the
grade?
